Project PERU

Urban geographic areas of Peru have seen a positive increase in water and sanitation over the last few years.

But 3 million Peruvians still lack access to safe drinking water and a further 5 million have not been able to access improved sanitation due to a lack of proper infrastructure, household facilities, and basic services.

We partnered with DurabioPeru and Sawyer International, as well as the local government to bring clean water systems to the rural areas of Chiclayo, Peru. DurabioPeru is a leader in portable water filtration systems and distributes portable filters to various organizations that work all over Peru. DurabioPeru helped us select communities that are in great need of safe drinking water, areas affected by Typhoid, Salmonella, and drinking water contaminated with dirt and other particles.

Arturo Pena

Arturo is a young boy who lives in a town about 30 minutes away from Chiclayo, Peru. The town lacks any proper infrastructure for sanitation systems, and the heat is unbearable during the summer months. His father travels to Chiclayo every day seeking ways to utilize his trade. When business is slow, he also looks for any means possible to feed Arturo and his family. Arturo’s family relies on a local well that does not provide safe drinking water and often goes dry during the drought season. His mother fell victim to Salmonella and passed away when he was seven. With the water filter provided, Arturo and his family will not lose another family member due to waterborne illnesses.
