PROJECT GHANA

3 million people in Ghana lack access to safe water

31 percent of Ghanaians lack access to improved sanitation facilities.

It began in Ghana, our very first project was in Lamleste, a rural community of 600+ people in the thick jungles of the Kumasi Region. The community is rarely visited by foreigners so we were looked at with curious faces when we first arrived. We are a lively bunch and started greeting everyone in the community; soon, those curious faces turned into smiles, laughter, and then hugs.

One of the most important cultural etiquettes in Ghana is greeting. Not greeting someone is frowned upon because it can be perceived as being disrespectful or not on good terms with someone. In addition, beads play a significant role in Ghanaian culture; they're considered vessels of spiritual energy. And, that energy was calling us to Lamleste that day!

Ghana means “Strong Warrior King”, and the Ghanaians are strong warrior people. Unfortunately, they lack access to basic human needs like safe water and sanitation facilities. Prior to our arrival, the community of Lamleste didn’t have safe drinking water and an improved sanitation facility. Now, they’ve two ceramic biosand filters to filter water and a latrine.

In addition, we set up a laptop lab and provided school supplies to the local schools where 100+ students attend. The students in the community are eager to learn, so we are committed to supporting the community school. In honor of this commitment, the community renamed their school to PH8 Academy.
